We spent some time in Needles before heading out toward Williams. Needles was the boyhood home of the town's most famous resident, Charles Shultz, whose time there inspired the creation of Snoopy's brother Spike.

Amtrak stops in Needles but only between 11PM and 1AM

After crossing the Colorado River, we look back to see a rock formation that the Needles locals refer to as The Spikes

We entered the Oatman Highway soon after and experienced a sometimes entertaining, and quite suspenseful drive through the sharp switchbacks of Sitgreaves Pass over the Black Mountains. This will give you an idea of that part:
When we entered Oatman, here's the encounter with the wild burros who seem to own the town.
Ginny opened her window to get a better photo, the the burro in the above photo came closer looking for food. Put his head in the window, almost in her lap.
Continuing on over the the switchback road toward Kingman. The views were magnificent.

As we continue our drive, we encountered these throwbacks to the '50x & '60s. Remember when they were everywhere?
